Started in 2022, As Insubmissas is a photographic project developed through a long-term relationship with Coletivo Puta Davida, a Brazilian collective dedicated to defending the human, labor and sexual rights of sex workers. The project brings together photographs made in Rio de Janeiro, Italy and Albania, exploring different experiences of sex work across geographical and social contexts.
The photographs portray everyday life, friendship, intimacy, sexuality and activism, revealing lives shaped by both vulnerability and collective resistance. Moving between public spaces and private environments, the project challenges stereotypes surrounding sex work, exploring the tensions between stigma, violence and exclusion, and autonomy, solidarity and empowerment.
Rather than offering a single narrative, As Insubmissas seeks to portray the complexity of these experiences and the relationships that shape them, questioning what it means to be a woman and a sex worker in different societies.
